Types of Burn Injuries:

First-Degree Burns are the most common (and mild) burn injury. Affecting only the first layer of skin, a classic example of such injuries is a sunburn. These wounds will appear red, turning white when you press it with a finger. They usually heal themselves within a few days, or as much as a week. IF fever or massive dehydration develops, seek hospitalization immediately.

Second-Degree Burns involve the first two layers of skin – the epidermis and the dermis. These types of burns may result in blistering, and the skin to appear to be translucent or pearly white. For unusually-deep second-degree burns, doctors and surgeons may recommend victims get a skin graft to assist the healing process.

Third-Degree Burns involve all three layers of the skin, resulting in a dark brown or leathery appearance. These may result in permanent scarring, and require skin grafting, the removal of dead tissue, and long-term use of compression garments to minimize scarring.
